I hate the fact that I have to suffer on Windows machines with no useful software. I've been in the UN*X world too long where I can kludge up anything I need out of awk, make and bash. I found a package called unxutils that contains a bunch of natively compiled GNU utilities for Windows that, unlike Cygwin, don't need to be installed. I threw in OpenSSH, Console Telnet, WeirdX, NetCat and GNU Privacy Guard. It uses subst to map the directory to U: and doesn't require any installation and at 6MB unpacked, it's easy to put on a USB drive.
No more suffering!
